These terms apply to every shipment handled by Abusua Logistics (company registration BE 1039.445.466). By booking a collection, submitting our quote form, or handing goods to our driver, you accept these terms.
01Prohibited and restricted items
This is the most important section. One prohibited item can cause the entire container to be held, inspected, fined, or destroyed, affecting every client whose goods are inside it.
Never place these in your shipment
- ✕Weapons, ammunition, explosives, or replica firearms
- ✕Drugs, narcotics, and prescription medication
- ✕Cash, jewellery, gold, or other high-value valuables
- ✕Lithium batteries, power banks, and loose batteries
- ✕Aerosols, gas canisters, and pressurised containers
- ✕Flammable liquids: petrol, paint, thinners, solvents, alcohol-based products
- ✕Perishable food, fresh produce, meat, and anything that can rot
- ✕Counterfeit goods and unlicensed branded items
- ✕Live animals, plants, and seeds
- ✕Corrosive chemicals, pesticides, and industrial cleaning agents
- ✕Pornographic or illegal material
- ✕Anything prohibited under Belgian export law or Ghanaian import law
If you are unsure whether an item is allowed, ask us before collection day. It costs you nothing to ask, and it protects everyone's goods.
Some items are restricted rather than banned, such as electronics, appliances, and certain foodstuffs. These may be shipped only if declared to us in advance and accepted in writing. Undeclared restricted items may be removed from the shipment at your cost.
02Packing and accurate declaration
You are responsible for packing your own goods securely and for telling us honestly what is inside. Barrels and boxes must be sealed, labelled, and able to withstand sea transport and handling.
- You must declare the contents of every item you send.
- We may open, inspect, or refuse any shipment at any time, before or after collection.
- We may refuse goods that are badly packed, unsafe, leaking, or wrongly declared.
- If a false declaration causes fines, delays, or losses, those costs are yours.
Fragile items should be marked clearly. We handle every shipment with care, but sea freight involves movement, stacking, and manual handling.
03Our liability and its limits
We take real care of your goods, and we ship home ourselves, so we treat every parcel the way we would want ours handled. That said, we must be clear about the limits of what we can be held responsible for.
- We are not liable for damage caused by poor packing on your side.
- We are not liable for goods seized, held, or destroyed by customs authorities.
- We are not liable for undeclared, prohibited, or restricted items.
- We are not liable for delays caused by weather, port congestion, customs inspections, strikes, or events outside our control.
- We are not liable for the loss of cash, jewellery, or valuables, which must never be shipped.
Where we are liable, our responsibility is limited to the declared value of the affected goods, up to the maximum set out in your booking confirmation.
04Insurance
Standard shipping does not include full-value insurance. If your goods are valuable or irreplaceable, ask us about additional cover before collection day.
Any insurance cover is based on the value you declare at the time of booking. Undeclared or under-declared goods cannot be covered.
05Customs, duties, and taxes
Because we ship on a consolidated basis, Ghana customs assesses duty on the container as a whole, not on each customer's goods separately. Abusua Logistics is the receiving party in Ghana, and we pay that duty. It is already built into the price we quote you.
This means you do not settle anything with customs, and nobody should contact you for payment on arrival. If anyone does, tell us straight away.
In some cases, for example commercial cargo or goods cleared under your own name, we may agree that you handle duty yourself. That must be agreed separately and in writing before collection. Where no such agreement exists, the duty is ours.
You must still declare the contents and their value accurately. Duty is assessed on what is in the container, so an undeclared or undervalued item raises the duty we pay on the whole shipment. Any additional cost caused this way will be passed on to you.
Customs authorities may inspect, hold, or reassess any shipment at their discretion. This is outside our control.
06Transit times
All shipping times we give are estimates, not guarantees. Sea freight schedules change. Containers wait for space, weather, and clearance.
If you are shipping for a specific date, such as a funeral, wedding, or event, tell us at the time of booking so we can advise you honestly on whether it is realistic.
07Payment
The price is agreed at collection, based on the volume and nature of your goods. Payment is due at collection unless we have agreed otherwise.
Goods will not be loaded into the container until payment has been received. Unpaid shipments may be held or returned at your cost.
08Collection in Ghana and unclaimed goods
Once your shipment arrives and we notify you, goods must be collected or accepted for delivery within seven (7) days. We are a shipping company, not a storage facility, and space in Ghana is limited.
After seven days, daily storage charges apply. After thirty (30) days, uncollected goods may be disposed of or sold to recover our costs, no refund will be due, and you remain liable for any shortfall.
09Cancellation
- Before collection: you may cancel free of charge.
- After collection but before loading: a handling and transport fee may apply.
- After loading into the container: cancellation is not possible and payment remains due.
10Governing law
These terms are governed by Belgian law. Any dispute will be handled by the competent courts of Belgium.
Still have a question?
If anything here is unclear, or you're not sure whether you can ship something, just ask. We would rather answer a question than lose your goods.
